Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW)
Community Workforce Solutions (CWS) delivers a job preparation activity called “Foot in the Door” funded through the Department of Employment and Economic Development and Innovation (DEEDI) initiative “Skilling Queenslanders for Work”.
CWS assists people who are, mature aged, migrants, parents entering or returning to the paid workforce and people who are under-employed working less than 25hrs per week.
Through the “Foot in the Door” program, participants are offered an individual program and access to workshops designed to build confidence and assist with work readiness.
The Workshops provide the knowledge and skills for job searching, resume preparation, job applications, interview skills and exploration into career possibilities. This program also provides basic computer training including use of the internet and email. Participants are also able to take part in a work experience which is conducted over a 30 day period.
The “Work Preparation” Program funded through the DEEDI initiative “Skilling Queenslanders for Work” enables 12 people to undertake a full-time paid work placement within a not for profit community organisation. The 14 week program focuses on Administration skills and provides the participants with 4 days per week on the job with their host organisation and 1 day per week with CWS gaining computer and job searching skills. Participants are selected through a recruitment process and open to residents of Wynnum and Manly.
